Animal Crossing Tarantula Guide and Other Tricks to Make Bells
I previously would have never thought a game that requires you to do chores and pay off your mortgage would captivate me but here I am making a guide about how to make money in Animal Crossing. Now, the toughest part about this game is acquiring enough bells to support all the work you are doing on your island. And that lazy, Tom Nook relies far too much on you to do his job for him, in my personal opinion. Sadly, if you stay on your own island and collect what is given daily, it’ll take you days to cover the costs and progress to the next chapter. So, here are some sure-fire ways to collect bells, including your Animal Crossing tarantula spawning guide.

Animal Crossing Tarantula Guide – Create your own Tarantula Island
If you’re anything like me, you’ve been envious of those who have been lucky enough to be blessed by the holy grail of mystery islands, “Tarantula Island“. For those of us who just don’t have that same luck, you can create your own.
What you’ll need:
- Nook Miles Ticket
- Shovel
- Ax
- Net
- Ladder
- Vaulting Pole
- Apples (Or any other fruit)
Since the tarantulas are nocturnal, you can only do this at night. This will not work in the daytime. Once the sun has set, redeem your Nook Miles for a Nook Miles Ticket. You’ll want to have nothing in your inventory except your tools, a few apples and the ticket before heading to the airport.
If you haven’t already, I would also suggest increasing your inventory with the Pocket Organization Guide and the Ultimate Pocket Stuffers Guide found inside the machine at Residential Services. All the more room to stuff your pockets with tarantulas!
Redeem your Nook Miles Ticket at the airport and head off to your mystery island. I will admit, some islands are better-suited for this tactic. If you find an island that is difficult to navigate without having to climb ladders or vaulting often, the more difficult it will be to do this. The best option would be to find an island that you can easily run from one side to the other without having needing to vault or climb more than once.
The first step when you’re on the mystery island is to remove everything that typically spawns bugs.
- Remove all the boulders by eating an apple (or another fruit) to increase your energy and hitting the boulder with your stone ax or shovel
- Pluck all the flowers on the island (you cannot get rid of the entire plant without replanting it)
- Chop down all the trees with your ax (not stone ax) and remove the stumps with your shovel
Destroy all the boulders and pluck all the flowers Chop down the trees and remove the stumps
Once you’ve removed all the spawns collect all the items and drop them in a corner of the island. This prevents them from getting in the way and you can stack them together when you collect them and drop them.
Next create your tarantula traps. This step isn’t necessary to force tarantulas to spawn on the island, but it will definitely help you catch them. Simply dig holes in a V-pattern at the corners of the island. You’ll probably want to make two or three of these and you may have to adjust the placement once you figure out where the tarantulas spawn. Make sure to leave a little room for you to run around them.
Create a tarantula trap
There are a few bugs that you’ll need to continually chase away. The wharf roaches, tiger beetles and giant water bugs will continue to spawn. Make your rounds about the island to chase away the tiger beetles and the wharf roaches. Now, I’m not entirely sure if the giant water bugs affect the spawn of the tarantulas but if you don’t see a tarantula for a while, catch them in your net and you can release them back into the wild to make them disappear.
Capture giant water bugs
While making your rounds to chase away any bugs that may have spawn, you’ll eventually find the areas where the tarantulas spawn. Get their attention until they begin to chase you. Sprint towards one of your traps and lure them to the center of the V while you are on the other side of the holes. The tarantula will begin to run in circles and you can calmly use your net and capture it.
Now, simply repeat this step until you fill your inventory with tarantulas.
Lure the tarantula to the trap
Lastly, unless you really need the bells right now I would suggest waiting for Flick to visit the island. You can sell the tarantulas to Timmy and Tommy for 8,000 bells each, but if you sell to Flick, you can sell each tarantula to the bug-lover with deep pockets for 12,000 bells each. Also, the giant water bugs are worth a decent price too if you still have some in your inventory, going for 3,000 bells each.

Shake All The Trees For Items and Coins
This next trick won’t make you rich, but it’ll definitely help you find new items for your island. This is a little time consuming, but it’s worth the five minutes each day.
What you’ll need:
- Net
- Ladder
- Vaulting Pole
All you need to do is walk around your island and shake every tree in hopes of finding the secret item. There is only one item per day, but it is usually something that you do not have yet. During this process, you’ll even shake out some coins worth 100 bells each.
I would suggest making sure to hold a net while you do this in case of wasps. If a nest falls out, just run away from the tree and quickly capture the swarm in your net.

You should also shake all the trees on all mystery islands. You’ll find a secret item that will fall from a random tree there too.

Get More Out of Your Rocks
This last trick is the easiest of them all! This trick is especially helpful if you are new to the game and looking for iron or clay.
What you’ll need:
- Shovel
This trick only relies on you having something to prevent you from knocking yourself back when you hit the rock. The maximum amount of items you’ll get if you don’t is five. Also, make sure there are no weeds, sticks or other materials around the boulder that can prevent things from popping out of it.
You technically only need to dig one hole for this to work, but I’ve found that sometimes you can get jostled from your position. My personal tactic is to go to the corner of the boulder and dig two holes behind me.
Dig holes to prevent knockback Receive 8 items from stones everytime
After you nestle yourself perfectly between the holes and boulder, continually smash the A button until the boulder is completely surrounded by materials. This method also works on the “Money Rock” that populates on your island daily. If you get all 8, you are able to reach up to 16,000 bells.
