The New Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Trailer Is Perfect
This year’s DC Fandome 2021 event revealed a lot of amazing trailers for fans of the comic book publisher. DC gave us a peek at several movies in development, including The Rock’s Black Adam and Ezra Miller’s The Flash. We finally got a full trailer for Matt Reeve’s Batman with Robert Pattinson but the most important trailer was for a video game. It wasn’t our first look, nor will it be our last, but it sold me completely on the game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
The trailer couldn’t have dropped at a better time. Just months after James Gunn’s Suicide Squad hit theaters and delighted fans around the world. And just days before Square Enix’s Guardians of the Galaxy game hits, this trailer proves we’re in for a whole new level of Superhero (and Villain) video games.
The Suicide Squad Vibes
Let’s get the first complaint out of the way, there isn’t much gameplay in this trailer. For some people that can be a huge red flag, but the developer has more than proved they know what they’re doing. Rockysteady Studios are the minds behind the Batman Arkham games. So, since I’m not worried about the gameplay, what is the one thing they need to get right about the Suicide Squad game to make it successful?
It’s the vibes and the personality. That’s what made the Batman Arkham series so good, that’s what made the Spider-Man game so good and that’s why people are excited about the Guardians of the Galaxy game. Each of these games puts you in the shoes of the hero and makes you feel like you’re really there.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League looks and sounds like it was ripped right off the pages of the comics in the same way James Gunn’s movie did. That’s what is going to sell and keep people more than great gameplay.
Kill the Justice League?
This trailer also gives us a full-on look at the heroes we’ll be fighting, the Justice League. Yes, the mission is to actually kill the Justice League who seems to be infected by some type of curse, power or mind-control. While we’re not entirely sure why it bears a lot of similarities to the Eclipso Storyline from the Rebirth Era in DC Comics. Maxwell Lord uses some ancient relic to unleash a dark god who starts taking control of literally everyone in the world.
We see Superman, The Flash, Green Lantern and even a quick look at Wonder Woman. So, Amanda Waller rounds up some of the best members of Task Force X to take them out. Between Harley Quinn, King Shark, Deadshot and Captain Boomerang, you have a killer cast of characters. The story trailer for the game also shows us a few other villains that will be making an appearance such as the Penguin.
The Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice league looks like an extension of the Suicide Squad movies (well, the good one) and that’s a good thing. James Gunn is a huge fan of the Suicide Squad’s original comic run and it shows in his films. This game will be a great addition to any Suicide Squad fans collection.
Release Date
Unfortunately, we’re not entirely sure when we get to team up with the members of the Suicide Squad to save the world. A tentative 2022 release window has been given, but with the way game development has been affected by the pandemic, if it’s a later release we could easily see the game get pushed back.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is being developed by Rocksteady Games and published by WB Games. It will release on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X and PC.
