Destiny 2: The Great Raid Race
Written be Sebastian Rooney
Bungie has released their latest expansion to the Destiny 2 story with “Lightfall”. With it came a tidal wave of new content for players to engage with including a brand new raid.
Root of Nightmares
“Root of Nightmares”, the newest addition to the Destiny 2 raid pool, released a week and a half after the drop of Lightfall. Every new raid release gives players the chance to prepare weapons, loadouts and builds for the World’s First Event.
The Destiny 2 raid race is almost like a bi-annual holiday in the Destiny community with thousands of fireteams preparing to take on the challenges that come with a new raid. Having to figure out mechanics and what makes for optimal damage output is all a part of the fun watching and competing in the race. With almost every big name Destiny 2 content creator being a part of the race, there were plenty of fans rooting for their group of creators. This includes the back to back to back World’s First champs in Clan Elysium and everyone’s favorite Destiny 2 content creator in Datto with Clan Math Class. Unfortunately for fans of Elysium and Math Class, they would finish far worse than they would have hoped in #57 and #152 respectively.
A New Champion
It would be a new team that takes home the raid race belt this time. Team Hard in the Paint in just under 2 and a half hours would be the first team to vanquish Nerarec, Final God of Pain. As a reward for being world’s first they will all receive a title belt from Bungie. The raid race had the most completions in the first 24 hours in Destiny history with just under 90,000. The next raid is expected to be released later in the year in a reprised raid where just like with Root of Nightmares will have much anticipation and fanfare.
