Rainbow 6 Siege: Operation Solar Raid Update
During the Rainbow 6 Jönköping Major, the newest season of Rainbow 6 was revealed at the end of Day 1. Operation Solar Raid comes with a lot of changes and additions. It could be hard to remember everything coming in what may be the biggest season of Rainbow 6 to date, so here’s what you need to know.
New Operator/New Map
As per usual with R6, each new season we are treated to a new addition to team Rainbow. This season we see the addition of Solis, a new defense operator whose gadget may seem familiar to long-time Siege vets. Their gadget allows them to see any attacker electronics with a visor. To activate it they have to use both their hands, leaving them vulnerable but being able to pass off information of where drones, claymores, other attacker utility is can allow the defense to make proper adjustments for the round.
The new map is Nighthaven Labs. Those that have been following the lore of R6 would know that Nighthaven is a subgroup within team Rainbow. The lore of Nighthaven and team Rainbow goes very deep but that is not very important right now. But the map is full of details and secrets that bring this universe to life.
Ranked 2.0
In the past, this is how Ranked for Siege worked: you would play 10 games and depending on your win/loss record you would be placed into what was thought to be your rank. With a singular metric in MMR, the only thing that mattered for your rank was wins. Now Ranked is completely reworked. Rather than a placement system, it is now a ladder. Starting from Bronze 5, you will now have to work your way up the ranked ladder. With five divisions in each rank, players now have more to climb.
Cross Progression and Cross Play
After years of asking for it, the community has finally received both cross play and progression. Cross play will be limited to only Playstation and XBox players being able to queue together, however it is a step in the right direction. Cross progression will link all of a player’s accounts to one. Combining currencies you will now be able to play Siege on whatever platform you want and it will progress on the other platforms as well.
New Battle Pass System
Siege is introducing a “new” battle pass system and those that have played Modern Warfare 2 will see the similarities. Rather than having a linear 1-100 you can pick the rewards you want. With different operator cosmetics on different tracks this allows players to pick the ones that they will see use out of.
Operator Changes
Each season comes with a balancing patch and this one is no exception. Ubisoft is changing the speed of a lot of operators, mainly making a lot of them slower/tankier. While this would seem like a buff to some, the current meta relies on quick movement so making a lot of highly picked ops slower will definitely make the new meta slower, for better or worse. Another change is the ADS movement speed. All operators, while ADSing will be the same speed, a 1 speed. With many people complaining about the new speed changes it is uncertain if Ubisoft will go through with them or leave them be.
With Operation Solar Raid coming soon, there is a lot to be ready for when it does drop.
