How To Master Fuse In APEX Legends
Walter “Fuse” Fitzroy is the 16th Legend to be added to Respawn Entertainments free-to-play Battle Royal game, APEX Legends. He’s described as a bombastic mercenary with more than a penchant for making things go boom. Armed with an Australian accent, a heavy ordinance cannon named Wally, and an 80s action hero vibe, he’s a must-play in the APEX arena.
So, how do you play Fuse and know you’re getting the best bang for your buck? We have everything you need to know in our guide on how to master Fuse in APEX Legends.
Who Is APEX Legends Fuse?
Walter grew up on the planet of Salvo, which was rife with war and gave him all the opportunities he needed to become the badass he is today. He grew up with his best friend Maggie, but when Fitzroy was given the chance to leave Salvo to join the games, she didn’t take it so well. The ensuing conflict cost Fuse his arm. He left for the APEX games anyhow and Maggie crashed the party the only way she knew how.
How To Play Fuse?
Like another Legend in the APEX games, the true success of your matches will all depend on how good you are with your guns. But, you can give yourself an edge if you use your abilities correctly and use weapons that play to the strength of your Legend. So how do you get the most out of Fuse’s explosive kit?
Tactical Ability: Knuckle Cluster
Fuse’s tactical ability is the knuckle cluster grenade which sets off a number of bombs. He launches a cluster bomb that continues to burst and explode wherever you aim it. This ability has a 25-second cooldown and can stick to both surfaces and enemies.
You don’t have to worry about it affecting your teammates, but you can damage and even kill yourself with it. If you stick the clusters they’ll do 10 damage on impact and 50 damage per bomb.
The cluster bombs are great for starting engagements because even if you don’t an opponent, it usually throws them a bit of balance. When you’re fighting around corners and can’t quite get the angle you need, a well-timed knuckle cluster gives you the edge you need to take that battle.
Passive Ability: Grenadier
Fuse’s passive ability is probably going to be his biggest strength. It allows him to stack two explosives per inventory slot instead of just one. That means at any given moment, a Fuse should have double the grenades of any other Legend. There are a few things you alter about your playstyle to make this advantage even bigger.
By running a pistol such as the Wingman or P2020, or a non-automatic rifle like the G7 Scout and 30-30 Repeater, you need less ammo and therefore have more inventory slots for the boom.
With a purple backpack, as a Fuse packing low ammo weapons you can have anywhere up to 15-20 grenades on you and still have room for shields and meds. Is that overkill? Maybe. But constantly raining down grenades on a team you’ve got pinched behind cover is priceless.
Plus, because of his arm launcher Fuse can throw grenades further and with more force. Arc stars go the farthest and can literally snipe players if you’re good enough. Grenades go the second farthest and thermite bombs have the shortest range.
Ultimate Ability: The Motherlode
Fuse’s ultimate ability is similar to Bangalore and Gibraltar but on a smaller scale. He takes out the heavy cannon on his back, named Wally, and fires a piece of heavy ordinance into the air. The target reticle shows you where it’s going to land and when it does it rains down a ring of fire.
Anyone who passes through the fire will take a big tick of damage and take more damage up to 75. It doesn’t affect teammates, but will affect Fuse himself.
The Motherlode is great as an area of denial, or if you have a team pinned down you can use it to corral them in. Gibraltar might be safe in his shield as he raises an ally but that bubble dome runs out long before the fire does. Keep in mind that Wattson and her ultimate ability are great counters to Fuse. It’ll eat up anything he can throw at her, so take down the Pylon first.
