Rocket League Shop Prices Cut

Loot boxes have been at the center at many conversations this past year and Psyonix is one developer who isn’t waiting to see how that conservation ends. They promised earlier on that they would remove all loot boxes from their game Rocket League and as their update did just that. In place of the loot box mechanic, they added ‘bluepints’ to their online store. Buying a blueprint lets players decide exactly what they want and pay for no more or less.
It seems the original pricing on blueprints in the store was a little higher than players were willing to pay with some items being as much as 1,000 to 2,000 credits. For comparison 100 credits is equivalent to $1. So players were paying $10-$20 for some cosmetics. After about a week of the backlash, Psyonix has responded and they agree with the players, the prices were a bit too steep. As a result prices have been slashed across the shop and if you’re a player who has already purchased any blueprints out of the shop, you’ll get the difference refunded.
Our Thoughts: Initial reactions to something like this would seem positive. A big company like Psyonix and Epic are listening to the woes of their players and dropping the pricing, in a little under a week no less. When was the last time something like that happened? The answer is never. We’re not the only ones who think so. The Rocket League Subreddit is also voicing some concern that maybe this was a clever marketing tactic by Epic to earn some good will and make the prices seem fair. If that is true, something like this could easily come back to bite them in the future. Epic and Psyonix may think they’re fostering goodwill but it could also be setting the fans of Rocket League with the expectation that if they raise their voices enough, the developers will listen. They may be in for a hard lesson here.
