Team Mixwell Wins G2 Valorant Invitational
Each week at CheckpointXP we bring you a moment in esports that’s too close for comfort. This week for CheckpointXP’s close shave we visit the Valorant scene. The G2 Valorant Invitational went down this weekend between Team Mixwell and Draken. The Grand Finals proved to be clash of the titans.
Valorant has been one of the most antipated esports scenes in the last decade. Riot Games, who owns and operates League of Legends is one of the best in the business. When Riot announced Valorant, people were excited the same effort that goes into League would be going into a tactical shooter. But, Riot said they have no plans to do so for the first few years. Instead they want the grass roots scenes to support early competitive Valorant.
This is where things like Twitch Rivals and the G2 Valorant Invitational come in. This past weekend the G2 Valorant Invitational saw some stiff competitive with Team Mixwell and Team Draken meeting in the Grand Finals. Both these teams are named after the captains of their teams Mixwell and Draken. Team Mixwell went on a tear and started to really run away with the competition, but team Draken began to mount a defense late in the second game. Team Mixwell put a swift end to it when one player took out all of Team Draken to earn the ACE and the win.
