With the start Overwatch League upon us, the OWL announced a partnership with streetwear brand, Staple, for their 2020 kits.
Jeff Staple has worked in the streetwear and fashion design industry for over twenty years. His Staple Design Studio has consulted or collaborated with a litany of brands like Nike, Sony and Louis Vuitton. In a press release, he had this to say about the collaboration.
Jeff Staple on the OWL x Staple Collaboration
“I have been observing esports for years and am a huge fan of what Overwatch League has been able to accomplish, so when they asked me to design their new kits, I was stoked,” Staple said. “It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring the best of the esports and streetwear worlds together to create something totally unique & ground-breaking. The kits are not only specifically engineered to perform to players’ specifications, but they’re also designed to look great outside the arena.”
The OWL x Staple line includes both long and short sleeve jerseys, jackets, compression sleeves, and hats for all 20 teams in the league. According to the OWL, players gave their opinions on the new gear and worked with Staple through the creative process. This isn’t the first time the OWL has changed things up when it comes to their uniforms. In the 2019 season, many teams released limited edition “third kits” to much fanfare.
The new collection goes live for pre-order on January 28th in the Overwatch League shop.
