League’s K-Pop Group, K/DA, Returns With “The Baddest”
Fresh off of their new content deal with Spotify, Riot Games brought back their beloved (fictional) K-Pop group K/DA after two years. The new track “The Baddest” brings back the polish that you can expect from K-Pop with the fanaticism of esports. The real humans lending their vocal talents to this track are two members of the Korean group (G)I-DLE, Soyeon, and Miyeon. Joining them are vocalists Bea Miller and Wolftyla.
Another Bop
The animated group first made waves with the hit “Pop/Stars” in 2018. The music video for “Pop/Stars” now has over 360 million views on YouTube and almost 150 million plays on Spotify. The human vocalists even performed next to their digital avatars at the 2018 League World Championships. The group made up of League of Legends characters Evelynn, Ahri, Akali, and Kai’sa also receive new skins for the new song. The latest track sees Miller and Wolftyla replacing Madison Beer and Jaira Burns from the “Pop/Stars” vocals for the slower-paced “The Baddest”. Rapper/Vocalist, Soyeon has now participated in three of Riot’s meta-music groups. She’s voiced the ninja, Akali, for the two K/DA tracks. She also provided Akali’s vocals in 2019’s “Giants” from another in-universe group True Damage.
While the video for “The Baddest” is mostly just flying text, there’s no telling what Riot may have in store for World’s in Shanghai this year. Last year, they set another bar for the use of Augmented Reality which made the experience the same for those watching at home and in the stadium.
We don’t know if there is going to be another animated video for “The Baddest” but the official K/DA Twitter does say to expect an EP later this year. Can’t remember the last time these many people were this excited for an animated music group. Well not since the Gorillaz.
