Tempest Awards Preview: Best Televised Broadcast
Next week in Las Vegas the Esports Business Summit will take place at the MGM Grand. The Esports Business Summit is a chance for all sides of the esports world to come together in a single place for three straight days of collaboration, talks, conferences and more. Part of those three days also includes the Tempest Awards which will take place at the HyperX Esports Arena on September 11th. Over the next few days leading up to the Tempest Awards we’ll be previewing the various categories.
Our Prediction to Win: Overwatch League – ESPN, Disney XD, ABC
Last year when the Overwatch League Grand Finals aired on ESPN proper, it was a big deal. For the 2019 season they stepped it up forming a partnership with Disney that saw matches available on ESPN, Disney XD and the matches of the week on ABC, prime time television. What was most admirable was the change in casters and analysts, making sure to explain or talk about the match in ways that don’t alienate the new viewers, but also don’t make long-time viewers or fans feel like they’re being talked down to.
The Tempest Awards will take place on September 11th at 8:45 PDT at the HyperX Esports Arena in the Luxor in Las Vegas. You can tune in to watch live at Twitch.tv/CheckpointXP.
