5 Things We Learned From Marvel’s ‘See You At The Movies’ Video
Earlier this morning, Marvel released a video to social media called “Marvel Studios Celebrates The Movies.” Unlike other recent Marvel postings, this doesn’t combine their upcoming TV and film slate; this one is strictly about the movies, and the goal seems to be to get fans excited to go back to movie theaters.
While the video is a bit of Marvel giving itself a well-deserved pat on the back for its history, there are also some cool reveals about its future.
- The Eternals looks awesome! OK, we knew that it was going to look awesome, but the video gives us our first look at the film.
- We learn the title of of the next Black Panther film: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
- We learn the date of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: May 5, 2023
- We (maybe) learn that the Fantastic Four reboot will take place during Marvel’s Phase 4 (assuming all of these films are part of Phase 4).
- We learn that Captain Marvel 2 is now being called The Marvels: the logo is mostly in the same font used for Captain Marvel, but the “S” in the logo is very similar to the lightning bolt on Ms. Marvel’s costume; Ms. Marvel will make her debut in her own Disney+ series, set to air later this year. (The Marvels will also see the return of Monica Rambeau, who we met as a child in the first Captain Marvel, but who we later saw as an adult in the Wandavision tv series on Disney+ earlier this year).
The video starts with iconic scenes from a number of Marvel films, with a voiceover from Stan Lee, saying “I love being with people. It’s the most incredible thing in the world. That world may change and evolve. But the one thing that will never change: we’re all part of one big family. That man next to you: he’s your brother. That woman over there; she’s your sister. We’re all part of one universe that moves ever upward and onward to greater glory.”
The scene then shifts to footage of fans watching Avengers Endgame on opening night, April 26, 2019, during the unforgettable “On your left” and “Avengers: assemble!” moments. As the crowd cheers loudly, the video makes the point that there is a big difference between watching a film at home and seeing it in a theater filled with people.
The video then moves to scenes from Black Widow (due out July 9), scenes from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (due out September 3) and a our first look at The Eternals (due out November 5).
From there, we see title cards for Spider-Man: No Way Home (December 17), Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness (March 25, 2022), Thor: Love and Thunder (May 6, 2022), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, (July 8, 2022), The Marvels (November 11, 2022), Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (February 17, 2023) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May 5, 2023). Finally, we see the Fantastic Four’s logo, but with no film title and no date. The video ends with the words: “See You At The Movies.”
