Call Of Duty League To Play On PlayStation 4

The cleverly-named “Call of Duty League” has been the talk of the esports town since their announcement about geolocated teams. The talk continued as they announced the 12 franchise team locations in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Florida, London, Los Angeles (KSE), Los Angeles (IGC) Minnesota, New York, Paris, Seattle, and Toronto. And even more talk goes on as Activision released the new official Call of Duty League logo and title.
However, the one announcement that seems the most striking, also went under the radar. The newest season will play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, on the PlayStation 4! To clarify, the shocking part of this sentence is the part about PlayStation 4, not about Modern Warfare. Let’s take a second to let that sink in.
This is an interesting decision, especially with PlayStation 4 nearing the end of its time, and the PlayStation 5 releasing next year. We can only assume that this was because of a deal between Activision and Sony, but one could say that’s a pretty good assumption. Esports leagues typically choose PC over console because of console limitations. So, why make the switch to a less-powerful performance. As a childhood fanboy of PlayStation, I am intrigued by this decision but I also have a couple questions about this decision.
- Will there be a mouse and keyboard option for players, or will all players have to use the PS4 controller?
- Will Sony utilize the current PS4 specs, or perhaps specially adapted version similar to the PS5’s specs?
We will have to wait and see how this will all look when they league begins, but we can be sure this new league will be something to watch…
