Treyarch “Frustrated” By Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Development
There were reportedly a number of issues with the development of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. The game was pushed up a month so as not to contend with Red Dead Redemption 2, leading to brutal crunch time on developers. This is yet another black mark on an industry plagued with unfair labor practices. In addition, the story mode was pulled from the game, supposedly a decision that was made the year it was launched. It originally would have been a co-op experience.
However, the most egregious complaints have been with the microtransactions that were put into the game. Supposedly, they came as a mandate from Activision who have tried to push the franchise’s profitability to the extreme. Not only does the game have map packs, it also boasts a loot box system and a battle pass. Developers from Treyarch have expressed frustration over this development cycle, and it’ll be on Activision to course correct for future releases.
