Paris Eternal Are The Champions of Overwatch Summer Showdown
Each week at CheckpointXP we bring you a moment in esports that’s too close for comfort. This week we look to the Paris Eternal in the Overwatch League’s Summer Showdown. They were the 8th seed overall going into the tournament and managed to outplay every adversary on their way to the championship.
The Eternal Struggle
It wasn’t an easy ride for the Paris Eternal on their way to the top in the Overwatch League Summer Showdown. Their first match-up against the Dallas Fuel wasn’t too tough. They won the match 3 to 1 and would go on to do the same to the Vancouver Titans. The real challenge came during semifinals against the San Francisco Shock. The Shock are the 2019 Overwatch League Champions and have been nigh unstoppable this season. The Paris Eternal went all the way to a game five against the San Francisco Shock before taking the victory.
In the finals against the Philadelphia Fusion, the other top team in the league, it was another drag down, knock out fight that went the distance to game seven. While the entire Paris Eternal contributed to the win, the real work came from young star DPS player Yeong-han “SP9RK1E” Kim on the Genji and Ki-hyo “Xzi” Jung on hitscan heroes. The Genji meta has taken over the league and the mechanical prowess from SP9RKLE and the teamwork to enhance his ability to farm and utilize his Dragonblade ultimate was the biggest game changer for the Eternal.
