Close Shave of the Week: Overwatch League Shanghai Dragons
Each week at CheckpointXP we bring you a moment in esports that’s too close for comfort. This week for CheckpointXP’s close shave we visit the Overwatch League. The Overwatch League May Melee had an explosive finish as the Shanghai Dragons narrowly escaped defeat at the hands of the Seoul Dynasty.
The road to the May Melee Finals were very different for the Seoul Dynasty and Shanghai Dragons. The Dragons were the number seed in the Asian Division, crushing any opponent that faced them. The Dynasty on the other hand, had been struggling to even win a single map in a series. They had been defeated in clean sweeps more than anyone cares to admit. However, their one saving grace was that they did beat the Shanghai dragons previously in a game 5 match, barely.
During the May Melee tournament the Seoul Dynasty was able to fight their way through Hangzhou Spark and the Guangzhou Charge. The finals once again brought the Dynasty against the Dragons. The Seoul Dynasty looked like an entirely different team as they clashed against the Shanghai Dragons. Seoul took the first three maps putting them at match point in the first to four series. Then in an incredible show of mental fortitude the Shanghai Dragons engineered and completed a four game reverse sweep. Earning them the title of the May Melee Asian Region Champions. Once again proving that in the Overwatch League the Shanghai Dragons are at the top of the pack.
