Close Shave of the Week: San Francisco Shock
Each week at CheckpointXP we bring you a moment in esports that’s too close for comfort. This week for CheckpointXP’s close shave we visit the defending champions of the 2019 Overwatch League Grand Finals, the San Francisco Shock.
Its not been the easiest road for the San Francisco Shock so far this season. Though they are still in the top half of the standings at 6th place, it’s a fall from their previous top two spot in 2019. A few weeks ago they dropped two matches in a single weekend to the Los Angeles Teams, the Gladiators and Valiant. They have since gotten revenge on both teams, but last weekend they were nearly handed a third loss.
The Fuel, currently at 17th in the standings drove the Shock to a game 5. It didn’t look like a fluke on part of either team. The Fuel took map 1 from the Shock with a 2 and 1 match score. The Shock answered back the very next match with a close win at 3 and 2. After the half the Fuel won on Numbani with a staggering full hold. On Hanamura the Shock replied in kind with a full hold of their own. Finally in game 5 the Shock brought it home with a close match score of 2 to 1.
