Back in June the streaming sensation Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins sign a three book deal. The deal wasn’t for an autobiography, but for three very specific types of books. The first was NINJA: GET GOOD a guide to gaming, tips and tricks from Ninja himself to help someone get good not just at gaming, but at streaming as well. As sort of How-To for beginnings. The second was something aimed more for the younger audiences, a Ninja Notebook complete with stickers for total customization. The third book comes out early next month on December 3rd.
The final book in his deal is a 100+ page graphic novel that see’s Ninja and his friends transported to a real life video game world similar to Tron in order to play out the battle royal lifestyle. Without going too deep into the story, Ninja ends up starting a revolution on the countless other worlds taken over by the main antagonist. Charlie Hall from Polygon wrote a review, “Ninja’s comic book turns Tyler Blevins into digital Jesus.”
Out Thoughts: I personally like the idea of streamers creating their own multimedia content like a comic book. Growing up and looking to sports athletes the way kids today look at streamers, it’s not like it hasn’t been done. Michael Jordan was essentially a super hero in Space Jam. Charles Barkley even had his own comic where he faced off against Godzilla. Charlie Hall’s take on the premise and the story does paint the story in a bit of a problematic light, but then again all of our media is filled with messiah-like characters. I’ll reserve my judgement for when I read the actual book come December, be sure to look forward to my own review.
