There’s a ton going on in the realm of collegiate esports and CheckpointXP: On Campus is at the center of it all! Grab hold and hang tight with our latest episode…
LEAGUE OF LEGENDS WORLDS UPDATE
The League of Legends World Finals came to a close over the weekend, and saw China’s Fun Plus Phoenix being crowned as the world champions in dominating fashion. FPX claimed the throne via a sweep of G2 Esports from the European region. Both areas are known specifically for team-fighting, but China’s LPL region is now king.
For Norris’ recap of the grand final, make sure you check out the all new episode of CheckpointXP: On Campus!
TRUE DAMAGE PERFORMANCE
The opening ceremonies of the aforementioned event featured a True Damage performance, in which the new skins for the group as well as the vaunted Louis Vuitton skins being showcased in what was just an all-around visual spectacle to kick off the final series. But this begged the question to our CheckpointXP: On Campus hosts: is this the League of Legends/Esports equivalent to the halftime show of the big game?
To see what the guys think about that and more, watch this week’s episode of CheckpointXP: On Campus.
OVERWATCH VARSITY RECAP
Jacob and his large cranium are back to recap the last week’s worth of action in the Overwatch Varsity Series, with playoffs in full swing. A weekend worth of action finds Utah and Maryville squaring off against each other in the finals, competing for the title of top collegiate Overwatch team.
To see how we got to this point, and for Jacob to access a higher plane of existence and break down all the action, you’ll be able to find it all as part of Checkpoint XP: On Campus!
A CHAT WITH McCHIZU
This week on the show, we have a very special guest in Adam “McChizu” McGuire-Britson, a shoutcaster for Rocket League Esports. Adam joins Daniel and Jacob to talk about how he got started in his career as a caster, why he chose Rocket League, and the Dreamhack Atlanta event!
Make sure you access the full interview in this week’s episode of CheckpointXP: On Campus.
THE TOLL ESPORTS TAKES
A study out of the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine shows that an increasing number of esports athletes deal with a wide range of physical ailments including eye fatigue, hand and wrist injuries, neck and back pain, and more. This reignites the debate of what the merit is in considering people who play esports as athletes.
Let us know what you think and see where the hosts of CheckpointXP: On Campus land on the newest episode!
CALL OF DUTY LEAGUE
This week, I, CheckpointXP: On Campus managing editor, Kevin Kelly, made a legendary return to the show to talk about which teams interest me most heading into the first season of the new Call of Duty League–with a twist. Jacob joins me for this segment to offer some incredibly comprehensive breakdowns the franchises catching my attention–however, his analysis is solely on the branding of each squad.
Make sure you watch this can’t-miss segment on the fresh episode of CheckpointXP: On Campus!
GOTTA GO FAST
We like to keep a tight schedule here on CheckpointXP: On Campus, so when we only have about a minute of time left to talk, it only felt right that we allowed Jacob the opportunity to do his best Sonic the Hedgehog impersonation, and run through thoughts on the brand new trailer, featuring the iconic video game character’s new and improved design.

We’ll be back next Thursday with a brand new episode, and continue to watch this space for more coverage of college esports from CheckpointXP: On Campus!
