Washington Post To Hire Dedicated Esports Staff
The Washington Post is furthering their coverage of esports. They’ve announced openings for two new writers and an editor to cover quote “the burgeoning video gaming industry and the world of esports.” The move represents another step in mainstream media getting into the space in a serious way.
In all honesty though the move isn’t very surprising. Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos, purchased the Washington Post back in 2013 for a quarter of a billion dollars. Amazon also owns Twitch which remains at the forefront of esports coverage. It’s not a shock that he wants the two properties supporting one another. This is probably why The Washington Post started their own Twitch channel last year, in an attempt to reach a younger audience.
