FTC To Host Workshop On Consumer Issues Around Loot Boxes
The Federal Trade Commission will be hosting a public workshop on August 7th to examine consumer protection issues around loot boxes. Titled “Inside the Game: Unlocking the Consumer Issues Surrounding Loot Boxes”, the event will be open to the public. It’ll also bring together industry executives, trade association, consumer advocates, government officials, and academics to lend to the discussion.
Topics for the event will include:
– The in-game consumer landscape, including the origin and evolution of loot boxes.
– Research into consumer behaviors, both for children and adults.
– And discussion surrounding the education and consumer awareness of loot boxes and in-game transactions.
The FTC will also welcome comments from people via online submission. They must be submitted here no later than October 11th.
