Before settling on the character we now know as Cal Kestis, Respawn Entertainment apparently considered a number of different protagonists for their upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Stig Asmussen, the entertainment director for Respawn, recently answered some questions about the upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

During the interview, he was asked if they considered an alien protagonist, and what lead them to settle on Cal Kestis. He revealed that they did indeed consider an alien protagonist but worried that it would no-pun-intended alienate too many people. They hoped for people to connect with Cal in a very human way, so they went with a human character. In addition, they considered a female lead, but with both the movies and Battlefront 2 focusing on female leads, they felt a male lead would be a good compliment. He did say however that he himself would love to do a Star Wars game with an alien protagonist.
