Fans of the movie rejoice! A new animated series centered around Akira is in the works. For those who don’t know, Akira was an anime movie released in 1988 which received pretty much universal praise. It also served as the introduction to anime for an entire generation of viewers.
Akira is being remade as a series with original manga creator Katsuhiro Otomo in charge of the project. While Akira was well loved, it was a truncated version of the original manga. This new series will be a more faithful representation of the manga, and should provide the opportunity to dive deeper on the characters and themes of the series.
