HV Gamer Con Returns In Person After Two Year Hiatus
HV Gamer Con will be returning to the Albany Capital Center in March for its first in person event since 2019. Members from the Albany Capital Center, Eastern College Athletic Conference, Center for Economic Growth and Compete4Ever came together last week to make this announcement, after previously delaying the event in 2021.
The event will feature some of the best collegiate eSports teams from across the country. Competitions will be held in ECAC Invitational Tournaments for Rocket League, Overwatch and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. As well as including public tournaments for Madden 22, NBA 2K22, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Fortnite. Not to mention thousands of dollars in cash and prizes.
HV Gamer Con Continues to Grow
“Esports continues to grow at a rapid pace at ECAC. In just the past two years, the number of schools competing has grown exponentially,” said President/CEO of ECAC Dan Coonan. “We are displaying some of the best collegiate esports competitors in the country with an exciting and safe return to in-person gaming.”
“Being able to invite regional players to play against some of the best Madden and NBA players in the country at HV Gamer Con is an event you won’t want to miss,” said Owner of Compete4Ever Larry Ridley.
In addition to the tournaments, there will also be panel discussions throughout the weekend from gaming and eSports industry experts on topics such as “How to be Recruited to Play eSports in College” or “How to Make a Career in Game Development”.
“This event continues to be an important economic driver drawing visitors to our area,” said Michele Vennard, Board Chair of the Albany Convention Center Authority. “We are thrilled to showcase our state-of-the-art facility and welcome the best collegiate esports athletes to the ACC, putting the Capital Region on the map as a gaming hub.”
The event began back in 2019, bringing in over 2,500 attendees, then having to switch to an all-virtual event the following year in 2020.
HV Gamer Con 2022 will run from March 19-20, tickets can be purchased here.
