Animal Crossing To Host Global Pride Parade
The pandemic has shuttered a lot of events this year, and for me, none more disappointing than Pride. This would have been my first year publicly out at Pride and the same is true for my fiance. To say we were looking forward to it is an understatement. That said, like most of the LGBTQIA+ community, we understood the need for social distancing. This is especially true for the LGBTQIA+ community where healthcare discrimination is still so rampant. But have no fear. Animal Crossing is set to host its first Global Pride Parade.
Global Pride Festival kicked off this week
Global Pride, which is a group of LGBTQIA+ Pride organizers have launched the Global Pride Festival in Animal Crossing. The event is aiming to provide a safe place for people of all sexualities, gender identities, and walks of life to come together and celebrate Pride. On June 27th, Twitch streamers ShubbleYT, ZoeTwoDots, Loveabilities will host a Pride day event on a virtual Pride Island. That island has been created by the studio Swipe Black, and includes a rainbow march, message board, hall of fame, club, catwalk and Pride-friendly clothing for game avatars.
More importantly, this Twitch stream will be utilizing Twitch’s new Tiltify tool to raise money for LGBTQIA+ causes. The 24 hour stream marks just one of many gaming celebrations of Pride this June. That’s not all either, as the event will be serving as an amplifier for Black Lives Matter related messages and causes. While many companies seek to use Pride as a way of making money, it’s good to see ones aiming to create something of value for the LGBTQIA+ community. So while I would very much have liked to march through the streets of downtown Ferndale, I’ll settle for doing so virtually in Animal Crossing this year. Keep an eye out for that Dodo code!
