DC FanDome Wonder Woman Trailer: First Look At Cheetah
This past weekend the internet was flooded with a ton of new announcements out of the DC Comics world. From comics to movies to video games, the first-ever DC FanDome event was a huge success. The first big announcement of the event was a brand new trailer for the upcoming Wonder Woman 184 movie starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine.
A Turning Point for DC
After Man of Steel, Batman V Superman, and a disappointing attempt at the Justice League, Warner Brothers and DC’s cinematic universe was in trouble. Unlike Marvel, who seemed to crank out hit after hit, the fan base was divided on DC and some had no faith they could deliver a worthwhile adaptation.
Director Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot changed that with Wonder Woman. While set in the dark backdrop of World War II the movie also inflicted some much-needed color through the Amazon homeland of Themyscira. Wonder Woman was also the first superhero movie with a female lead. It marked a pivot in WB and DC’s movies that has since led to more fan accepted titles like Aquaman and Shazam.
The New Wonder Woman in 1984
The newest trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 brings all of the action, excitement, and hype you’d expect from the Amazonian Princess. From lightning-fast reflexes to actually swinging from lightning bolts. What else did the new trailer show us? Steve Trevor is definitely back, which we’ve known for a while now. He seems to be just as integrated into the film as he was in the first, but we still don’t have any idea how or why he’s back.
As for the villains this time around, Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, The Mandalorian) will be playing Maxwell Lord. Lord is like to Diana Prince what Lex Luthor is to Superman. Kristen Wig (Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters) will be playing Dr. Minerva aka the Cheetah. In some incarnations, Dr. Minerva and Diana are friends but a curse turns the good doctor into a blood-thirsty villain. From what the trailer shows, Dr. Minerva even before her transformation seems to be driven mostly by jealousy and resentment of Diana. The CGI for the little we see of Cheetah leaves much to be desired, but may not be indicative of the final product.
