The Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) released in theaters two months ago. A month after the theatrical release the Margot Robbie led super hero flick hit digital release for home video. Now, two weeks later the DC Extended Universe film is trying something different.
Originally the home video was priced at $19.99 but if you want to rent it you can watch the Birds of Prey movie for only $5.99. It’s very uncommon for a major Hollywood film to receive a price cut like this so early on. Most films stick at the full retail price for at least a month following their digital release.
It seems to be working, however, as the film is currently one of the most rented on iTunes. Even before the price cut it debuted at #2 before it started to slow fall down the ladder. The Covid-19 pandemic is causing more people to stay at home and having access to more content at cheaper prices is proving to be a huge boon.
Birds of Prey directed Cathy Yan and written by Christina Hudson. It stars Margot Robbie, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Elizabeth Winstead, Rosie Perez, Ewan McGregor, Chris Messina and Ella Jay Basco.
