Esports Scholarship Watch: Arcadia University
College esports is growing at an exponential rate. So much so that it can be easy to forget that you can get a bit of help with tuition through gaming. So we here at Checkpoint On Campus want to share our Esports Scholarship watch. From there, we hope that students across North America can find a program that helps them further their education and stomp the competition too. This week we highlight Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania.
Arcadia’s Program
Today’s scholarship update is focused on the Pennsylvania-based Arcadia University and its esports program. Arcadia is a private school in Glendale, Pennsylvania, with a varsity program. Esports at the university started in Fall 2019 at the height of esports popularity in the US with four popular esports titles. The roster has since expanded to six titles, including:
- Overwatch
- League of Legends
- Super Smash Bros Ultimate
- Rocket League
- Hearthstone
- Rainbow Six Siege
Arcadia University offers scholarships to deserving varsity recruits for all six gaming titles.
Over the past two years, teams from Arcadia have participated in several collegiate and developer leagues, including NACE (National Association of Collegiate Esports), ECAC (Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference), TESPA (Texas Esports Association), and CSL (Collegiate StarLeague), among others.
AU Scholarship Opportunities
Tuition at Arcadia University reaches $43,580, but esports athletes can find some help in the program’s scholarship offerings. The esports scholarships help students pay for their education through varsity esports, covering room and board, books, and more. The scholarships at Arcadia are some of the most generous in the United States, ranging up to $25,000 per student.
The eligibility criteria for awarding the esports scholarship to a varsity recruit is based on their academic performance (GPA) and esports abilities. The amount varies between different gaming titles depending on the skills of the students. For skilled students, however, there’s no question that Arcadia has one of the sweetest scholarship offerings.
Live tryouts are held at the campus each year before the start of the new season. Students who are interested in applying for a varsity esports scholarship at the university can apply at any time throughout the year and appear in the tryouts.
