College Esports Match Of The Week: Bama Crimson Vs Eagles COD Gold
This week’s Match of the Week dives into College Call of Duty as the Bama Crimson square off with Eagles COD Gold. Week 8 of the CCL2021 season saw some fierce action, but these two schools in particular showed up to play.
Game 1: Hardpoint – Apocalypse
In a map that the Call of Duty world seems to still be trying to figure out, Bama Crimson made a statement. If Bama wanted to have any chance of winning this series against an electric Eagles squad, they were going to have to take game 1. And that’s exactly what they did.
On the backs of strong team play, and a couple of missteps midway through the map by the Eagles, Bama Crimson took the opening map in a tight 250-242 contest.
Game 2: Search and Destroy – Moscow
This has been one of the Eagles best maps of the season, which is why it was so critical for Bama Crimson to take map one. This map was maybe a bit closer than one would have expected, with the game being tied 3-3 after 6 rounds.
After the half, the game remained tight. Both teams traded rounds back and forth, with some very questionable plays on the Eagles side. A 9th round win by the Eagles brought it to match point, and Bama was unable to answer on defense this time. Eagles takes game 2 by a 6-4 score and tie the series.
Game 3: Control – Garrison
The first round of Control got off to an auspicious start as Georgia Southern’s Teston managed to contest a point with 2.7 seconds left on the clock. However, he jumped off the control point to get more kills and the round went to Bama Crimson.
The Eagles answered back in round 2. It was a difficult start, with Bama Crimson securing the B site. However that would be as far as they got. Eagles righted the ship and no one came even close to touching A site.
Georgia Southern turned on the jets for the next two rounds, and managed to pull out a must-have win for Alabama on map 3.
Game 4: Hardpoint – Raid
Game 4 was where COD Eagles Gold remembered that they’re a top 5 team in the country. At no point in this match did it feel close as Eagles asserted their dominance. They tore through the Bama Crimson, securing a couple of cruise missiles along the way.
By a final score of 250-120, the Eagles took game 4 and the series in a 3-1 victory over the Bama Crimson. It was a well played match by both sides, and easily worthy of our match of the week.
