Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge Needs To Hurry Up And Get Here
Mortal Kombat fans have had a somewhat lukewarm run of it when it comes to content outside the games. Heck, even the games were pretty bad from 5 through 9. But looking at the media outside gaming is just as hit or miss. The original movie? Pretty awful, but a ton of fun. I liked it a lot. The second movie? Pretty awful, and no fun at all. Ew. The animated movie? Admit it, you forgot there was an animated movie before this one. Spoilers, it’s super okay. The comics? Pass.
From time to time, we’ve been teased with trailers or concepts for new movies. Remember the live action movie short that featured Reptile about 10 years ago? Yea, it looked incredible, but it never got made. Well, that’s not entirely true. The film has bounced around development hell for the better part of a decade, but is now in full production and set for a 2021 release date. We’ll see how that turns out.
Which brings us to now, and Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge. It’s an animated movie due out on April 12th which tells the story of the first game. We got our first trailer back in January, and it was pretty impressive. And then the world descended into a COVID-19 fueled madness and I completely forgot about the project. Until this week that is. A second clip of the movie has been dropped, featuring Johnny Cage as he meets Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, and Raiden. I’m now fully back on board and ready for this movie to get here.
The movie features some stellar voice acting talents, including Joel McHale as Johnny Cage, Jennifer Carpenter as Sonya Blade, and Steve Blum as Sub-Zero. Patrick Seitz also reprises his role as the voice of Scorpion from the game series. MK Legends also marks the first time a Mortal Kombat movie has received an R rating. All in all, there’s a bunch of reasons to get excited and check it out. Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge will debut digitally on April 12th, with a Blu-Ray release following on April 28th.
