Call of Duty Major, Harry Potter RPG, and GTA Roleplay
On today’s CheckpointXP Daily news, we have special guest Lara Lunardi joining us. We talk about the Call of Duty League major that gets going today. We also discuss the Harry Potter RPG allowing players to make transgender characters, and talk about the GTA Roleplay community.
Call of Duty League Stage 1 Major Kicks Off Today
With 500,000 dollars on the line, all 12 teams in the Call of Duty League will be in the first major of the year. The Atlanta Faze, Paris Legion, Minnesota Rokkr, and last season’s champions, the Dallas Empire have all earned first round byes.
The CDL has been mired in weeks of league play, but it’s the majors that always get my blood pumping. If you wanna check it out, you can watch all the action on the CDL Youtube Channel.
Harry Potter RPG To Allow Trans Characters
Hoo boy. I’ve got some complicated feelings about this one. The world of Harry Potter has an awkward relationship with the transgender community. This is mainly due to the author of the Harry Potter books, JK Rowling, having some poor opinions about transgender people.
So the news breaks that the new open world game set in the world of Harry Potter will allow for trans people to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. According to a report from Bloomberg, players will be able to determine their voice and pronouns independent of the design of their character. In addition, they’ll also be able to choose whether they are a witch or wizard.
Don’t get me wrong, on it’s face, I’m very much in favor of that system becoming the norm for character design. Any game that has a character creator moving forward should allow players to pick their voices and pronouns independent of other choices.
Like many in the trans community, I’m still apprehensive about buying anything that lines the pockets of JK Rowling. Still, I grew up a pretty big Harry Potter fan, and I can empathize with those who refuse to let this be taken away from them.
When GTA RP Becomes A Job
Grand Theft Auto 5 has an enduring legacy. It’s the single most profitable piece of media ever created. But the GTA Online scene has also created a bustling roleplay community full of people living out lives in the world of GTA V.
Now, one of the most well known GTA roleplayers is calling it quits. According to Sodapoppin, the GTA RP server had just become too much of a job in and of itself. Those of us who grew up playing MMO’s can probably relate to the feeling of a game becoming more of a chore than a way to relax.
What a world where a Grand Theft Auto Online roleplay server losing a player becomes news, but Sodapoppin has over 6 million Twitch followers.
