The OWLs Nest is CheckpointXP’s official podcast dedicated to the Overwatch League. Every episode Robbie Landis is joined by Jake Lyon to discuss the latest league moves, matches, and more. This episode Robbie and Jake discuss how the Paris Eternal and the Guangzhou Charge took the win in their respective regions of the Overwatch League Summer Showdown Finals.
The Guangzhou Charge and the Paris Eternal have been waiting all season for a moment like this. Both teams are lined with talented players but were just a few matches from proving themselves as capable as the top seeds like the Shock and Dragons. But a return to a meta with Cybernetic Ninja’s wielding swords infused with the spirit of a dragon was just the edge they needed to prove their superiority.
The Eternal and the Charge
It was a tough road for the Paris Eternal to take the wins they needed to become champions. Their matches against Dallas and Vancouver were nothing compared to the gauntlet before them in San Francisco and Philadelphia. Beating both of those teams in the maximum amount of games on the same day was no easy task. Jake explains what makes the Paris Eternal so formidable in the Genji dominated meta.
The Guangzhou Charge has been poised to make a splash like this all season long. With a talented roster and a deep hero pool, they have the talent to make any meta work but this Tournament they’ve been on the top of their game. While the Eternal and other teams in the NA Region upset top seeds to make it happen. Only two teams in the APAC region ever had a chance of making it to the finals. Sweeping their way through most matches the Dragons and Charge met in the finals, but the Charge was more than ready for the Shanghai crew.
