Blizzard Cancels Overwatch Event In New York City
Blizzard Games has cancelled an Overwatch event in New York City. The event was booked just a week ago on October the 9th, and was intended to celebrate the launch of Overwatch on the Switch. The event was going to feature players from the Overwatch League as well as popular streamers.
That event however has now been cancelled, and Blizzard hasn’t given a reason why just yet. A lot of people are speculating that the reason is that Blizzard is hoping to avoid protests. They continue to face backlash and threats of protest in the wake of their decision to punish Hearthstone player Blitzchung after his comments in support of the Hong Kong protests.
Despite reducing his ban to 6 months and restoring his prize money, Blizzard is still dealing with threats of boycotts and protests. All eyes are now on Blizzcon, which is scheduled to get underway at the beginning of November. Will there be protests and boos at Blizzard’s largest event of the year? Or will they manage to get the situation under control before then?
