Mark Cerny, lead architect of the PlayStation, revealed to Wired.com the first few details about the next-gen PlayStation. Assuming it will be named the PlayStation 5, the PS5 will have a new CPU and new GPU based on AMD’s Ryzen line and a custom variant of Radeon’s Navi family. It will have 3D audio, and will support 8K graphics and the current PSVR. Cerny also confirmed the PS5 will have an SSD for faster load times. The PS5 will also have the same architecture as the PS4, meaning it will be backwards compatible and will take physical media.
