College Esports Player Of The Week: Buddy (Northwood)
Every week during the Spring and Fall semesters, Checkpoint On Campus will share a college esports player that we think had an amazing week. So on this Easter weekend, we present College Esports Player Of The Week: Buddy of Northwood University.
Opening Day
Collegiate Rocket League is back. And with it comes one of the most dominant teams in all of college esports in 2020. Northwood University. Their CRL squad came out of nowhere last season and nearly ran the table in every Rocket League competition in the land. One of their more unsung heroes is Buddy, who had an amazing week both in front of goal and defending.
In their opening streamed match the Northwood Timberwolves went up against South Florida. The opening game was one of attrition, going scoreless until overtime where Pirates would bury a masterful air-dribble from Buddy. Game 2 was a bloodbath. Northwood would win 5-1 with Buddy putting up points on the board with a goal an assist and a save. USF would come back and win game 3 and put up a heck of a fight in game 4. But eventually, it would be the Wolves that won out.
In the final game, Buddy went OFF. He secured the hat trick and put up four saves as well. Buddy would end the series with four goals, two assists, and six saves.
Continuing To Perform
The win against USF was only the beginning of Northwood’s week as they would end with a perfect 7-0 record and Buddy would help deliver another moment of brilliance against Durham as well.
Northwood continues to look like the team to beat in CRL. But they are going to remain a force in the league as long as Buddy, Noxes, and Pirates are their Terrible Trio. While the other two may grab more headlines, watch out for our College Esports Player Of The Week: Buddy.
