Kenobi Casts Hayden Christensen – My Burning Questions

Rumors had been floating for awhile that Disney would be having Hayden Christensen reprise his role of Anakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader in their new Kenobi series. It was theorized that Christensen might make an appearance in a flashback or a one-off appearance as Darth Vader. However, he sits damn near the top of the billing and it seems likely he’ll be more heavily involved.

Our first new series after the immense success of The Mandalorian, Kenobi has raised a number of questions. Let’s take a look at some of the big questions, and where they might be going with it.

How are Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker supposed to interact?

So if this series is set to take place during Obi-Wan’s exile on Tatooine, it poses a major problem. To our knowledge, he didn’t interact with Darth Vader between their fateful encounter on Mustafar in Revenge of the Sith and eventually on the Death Star in A New Hope.

So when are these two supposed to interact? Will we see them in flashbacks that take place during Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith in the prequel trilogy? Will they find a way to have Obi-Wan and Darth Vader cross paths?

My guess is that we’re going to see some flashbacks back to the era of the Clone Wars. Christensen and McGregor are still young enough that with some CG work, they’ll be able to pass for their younger selves. This could help build on what the Clone Wars animated series started with fleshing out the friendship between these two.

What is Obi-Wan Kenobi actually going to do?

This was my biggest question when the series was announced. To our knowledge, he’d been on Tatooine all this time protecting Luke Skywalker. And no one wants to see a season of a grizzled veteran protecting a young child from malicious imperial forces…. oh wait, that’s the plot of The Mandalorian.

In all seriousness, I’m sure they’ll find reasons and excuses to get Obi-Wan off Tatooine. I’m curious to see his state of mind as we get to this series. He is one of three people with knowledge that his padawan became Darth Vader, gave rise to the Empire, and all but obliterated the Jedi. That has got to weigh heavily on the psyche, and I would imagine Obi-Wan isn’t going to be doing the best when we are reintroduced to him.

Will this answer some of the other questions we have about this time period?

That’s the strange part. We have a lot of material surrounding the fall of the Jedi. And we have a ton of material surrounding the beginning of the rebellion. But the dark times in between are actually relatively untouched.

With the exception of Solo: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, we haven’t seen a ton of stuff take place in this time frame. I’m assuming this will be before Star Wars: Rebels, which means that Kanan is out there. Cal Kestis and Cere are out there. Ahsoka is somewhere out there.

My point is there are a lot of unaccounted for Jedi lurking in the galaxy right now, and as Luke Skywalker’s shocking appearance in The Mandalorian told us, no one is off limits.
