The Monster Hunter Movie Trailer Gives Me No Hope

Each week we bring you two moments, one of epic success, someone who absolutely nailed it! And another of an epic failure, someone who totally failed it. This week for the Failed It we’re visited by Hollywood Action star Milla Jovovich. She’s made a career out of a being a badass on the big screen and while we love her no matter how the movie does…well she’s had some flops. It looks like she may be adding another to her list with the Monster Hunter movie.

All the Wrong Moves

Video game movies have not been very good in the past. I could probably count on one hand how many truly good video games movies or shows there are. However, despite being prone to flop in the box office there have been some decent attempts. We should note, it’s difficult to translate a 20-60 hour video game into a 1-2 hour film. Not everything is going to be adapted perfectly. But in the 90s there were a few tropes that video game movies always seemed to fall into.

Take for example the Dungeons and Dragons movie or even the Mario Brothers Movie (which I love, full disclosure). The heroes in both of these are somehow magically transported to the world of their respected games. In the trailer for Monster Hunter, it shows Milla Jovovich and her squad in full military attire, in a vehicle with a mounted gun and their own weapons. The Diablo that comes out of the ground completely surprises them and…you guessed it. A sandstorm magically transports the characters to a new world where their weapons have no effect.

Check out the new Monster Hunter movie teaser trailer featuring Diablos. Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that …

Guns have no effect on the monsters! I’m sure swords and bow and arrows will work better. Just add the Monster Hunter movie to the pile of failed video game movies because there’s no hope for this one. I’ll still be seeing it though, love me some Milla Jovovich.

Check out this week’s Nailed It, featuring a streaming community that banded together to lift the spirits of their favorite streamer.
