The OWLs Nest is CheckpointXP’s official podcast for the Overwatch League. Every episode Robbie Landis is joined by Jake Lyon to discuss the latest league moves, matches, and more. This episode Robbie and Jake breakdown how they think Hero Pools will affect the Countdown Cup for the Overwatch League.
The return to the tournament format has proven to be a huge success for the Overwatch League. Though bumpy to start, the league has found the perfect formula to keep the meta interesting with hero pools. The first two weeks of the Countdown Cup, the final tournament before the Overwatch League post-season, will feature the final set of hero bans. For the damage dealers, Mei the Ice Queen, and Sniper Extraordinaire, Widowmaker, are both on the bench. The staple tank of the double shield meta and a huge enabler for Genji, Orisa is the tank whose out of the line-up. Though she hasn’t seen as much play-time as Brigitte and Baptiste, Ana is the healing hero on the sidelines.
On this episode of the OWLs Nest, Robbie and Jake take a look at the Countdown Cup Hero Pools and try to theorize how they might affect the meta. The Summer Showdown saw a resurgence of Genji game-play who dominated the top team’s compositions. But a lot of his strength comes being enabled by Orisa’s halt ability. Ana’s ultimate ability is another big ability that goes a long way in enabling Genji to make big plays with his ultimate, Dragon blade.
