Joel Schumacher, Acclaimed Film Director, Dies at 80
Joel Schumacher, who directed many hit films including St. Elmo’s Fire, The Lost Boys and Flatliners, has died. He was 80.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Schumacher passed away following a yearlong battle with cancer.
Schumacher’s directing credits also include 1991’s Dying Young, 1994’s The Client, 1996’s A Time to Kill and 1999’s 8MM.
Schumacher also notoriously helmed 1995’s Batman Forever and 1997’s Batman & Robin, which added more of the comic book camp compared to the previous released Tim Burton Batman films, 1989’s Batman and 1992’s Batman Returns.
Schumacher also has a number of producer and writer credits as well including 1978’s The Wiz, 1985’s St. Elmo’s Fire and 2004’s The Phantom of the Opera, the latter of which he also directed.
