Joel Schumacher, who directed many hit films including St. Elmo’s Fire, The Lost Boys and Flatliners, has died. He was 80.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Schumacher passed away following a yearlong battle with cancer.

Schumacher’s directing credits also include 1991’s Dying Young, 1994’s The Client, 1996’s A Time to Kill and 1999’s 8MM.

Schumacher also notoriously helmed 1995’s Batman Forever and 1997’s Batman & Robin, which added more of the comic book camp compared to the previous released Tim Burton Batman films, 1989’s Batman and 1992’s Batman Returns.

Schumacher also has a number of producer and writer credits as well including 1978’s The Wiz, 1985’s St. Elmo’s Fire and 2004’s The Phantom of the Opera, the latter of which he also directed.
