Esports is officially reaching the big time when it comes to salaries, especially when League of Legends is concerned. Reports are coming out that Dignitas’ top laner Huni has agreed to a two year extension. The deal is reportedly worth 2.3 million dollars in guaranteed money according to ESPN’s Jacob Wolf.
Huni is coming off a strong season in which his team, formerly Clutch Gaming, competed at the World Championship. Dignitas hasn’t wasted anytime in resigning the veteran top laner, although his teammate Lira has yet to be resigned.
Our Thoughts: This isn’t the first League of Legends pro to earn a 7 figure salary, but it’s still stunning whenever we see it. As League continues to grow and become a more recognized brand and esport, the contracts will only continue to grow with them. This tells me that the LCS is profitable, as teams would be looking to cut back if the money wasn’t there. Awesome to see Huni get his, and looking forward to reporting on many more stories like this in the future.
